AUSS & AUSS (((((A&A)))))) was the only company to survive the energy crisis and nuclear fallout resulting from World War III. Predicting the end of oil, the twin brothers of the AUSS family invented Acephalous, a system that uses music and experiences in virtual and augmented reality to intensify human brain activity and generate energy pulses known as millineural.

As the sole owner of energy production in the world, A&A dominates all sectors of the economy and has become the absolute provider of products, services, jobs and income.

Armed with an almost 100% robotic operating platform, and dependent on the population to be able to produce millineurals, the company launched a program to hire people with a keen sense of hearing. A millionaire bonus was offered to anyone who could achieve high performance. Billions of candidates applied for the position as a neurogenerator. I was one of them.

THIS MUSIC IS NOT FOR THINKERS.

To be hired by AUSS & AUSS, you had to be willing to experience a virtual and interactive world shaped from emotions and memories, induced by the contact with music. The degree of intensity of the neurogenerator’s reaction to these experiences resulted in a greater or lesser generation of energy.

What does this mean?

If a song played by Acephalous provoked the neurogenerator to the point of reminding him of his first kiss, that memory was virtually rebuilt and the professional, dressed in A&A's headphones and goggles, could bring his real lips closer to the projected holographic lips. How much is the emotional reaction of a first kiss worth? That’s right, Acephalous was able to answer this question based on the amount of millineurals resulting from this experience.

On the other hand, spontaneous reactions, incited by music, also stimulated the creation of real-time immersive and interactive realities. It was enough for a heart to get excited with a frenetic rhythm to generate a dance floor or a running track before the eyes of a neurogenerator. How intense this experience was, the greater the energy production.

After years of waiting for an opportunity as a neurogenerator, I was invited to the AUSS & AUSS headquarters in Riga, Latvia.

Candidates were required to be authorized for the application of Mechaine, a substance that catalyzes the emotions of Acephalous users.

Desperate for the job, I signed the documentation and received the A&A hearing and visual aids. Jacked in, I entered one of the stations of the neurogeneration plant and was plugged into a Mechaine injector device.

As the songs were played to me, doses of Mechaine were released into my body, and my productivity was analyzed. During the session, I was not moved by what I heard. The reality projected by the system was an infinitely dark and impassive virtual environment. However, surprisingly, my energy performance was extraordinary and I was subsequently hired.

Two years passed without me registering any kind emotional response. However, my production was the largest in the company. I was indifferent to any and all sensory experience. Until one day, after a failure in the update of Acephalous, I received an overdose of Mechaine. For the first time, I was moved.

The update error provoked not only the awakening of my emotions, but also disconnected me from Acephalous and inexplicably integrated my brain into the neural network of the AUSS & AUSS mobile operating systems. As a result, my neurons were able to access, in real time, every function on smartphones, tablets and notebooks from all the users around the world.

Calls, shares, messages, used applications, photos, videos... It was possible for me to participate in everything at the same time. I was the digital language brought to life, and my nerves were on fire. I could feel every touch on the screen of a device. I was a 100% busy and sensitive body.

Through the cameras of the devices, I saw the faces of people reflected like Narcissus in a mirror of water. I saw smiles as perfect as Mona Lisa’s. How can one not be moved by the ingenuity of a Da Vinci or the entrancing beauty of a myth? I saw tears streaming over the crystalline surface of the screens. I laughed, and I also cried. I felt the pain of loss when something was deleted. I felt simultaneously sad, happy, useful, disposable...

Security mechanisms intervened to disconnect me from the neural network of operating systems, trying to bring me back to Acephalous and thus rescue my operations as a neurogenerator. As they advanced, functions were disabled, until my brain was conditioned to only a camera application.

An unimaginable number of photos was taken per millisecond. I was the application for the aficionados of selfies. I was the image and likeness of every brightness and contrast. I could feel what a pixel felt.

I was the range of filters that created the illusion in a photo, in search of thousands of likes on the famous social networks.

Due to the mind-boggling pace of information processing, my neurons were about to collapse when emergency support algorithms triggered the Polaraid, a drastic command.

The Polaraid isolated me in the delete function of the app ... I was trapped in a cybernetic limbo where all the deleted photos in the world end up. My memory was buried by an avalanche of photographic trash. My reality was a fiction in which Dante visited Andy Warhol’s hell.

THE ORIGINAL IS DEAD
BACKUP!

Under the debris of an exponential amount of dead images, my total dose of Mechaine was abruptly consumed, causing the vascular accident that culminated in my brain’s death. My sensory experience had been a digital epic, whose end was turned into a tragedy of colors and bytes.

But seconds before I died, a backup of my memory was performed automatically. Everything my brain had experienced in life, from the womb to the fateful events in cyberspace, was copied by the company to its data network. Physically, I had died. But virtually, I still existed.

This was A&A's standard procedure. When a neurogenerator retired or died, the company backed up all the worker's mental history. Memories associated with millineural production peaks were identified, replicated, and serially reproduced in a virtual environment to give birth to artificial cybergenerators. Once hired, a neurogenerator would forever be a neurogenerator, dead or alive.

I was responsible for 70% of AUSS & AUSS millineural production. Until then, I was the energetic hero of the world. Now that I've died, my memories are being analyzed by the company.

What will be the future of A&A, and of our planet? Why, although I am dead, do I continue to tell this story? The answers, you can imagine...
